WorldRes in Sophia : staff reduced to the minimum
WorldRes, the worldwide network for on-line hotel booking (18.000 affiliated hotels), did not manage to reach the objective that was scheduled for France. Fro the moment, the progression of on-line hotel booking did not explode. The result : lay-offs. The American company, which chose Sophia Antipolis in 1999 for the base of the settlement in France and South-Europe, is significantly reducing. Out of the ten people who worked on the urban research park for WorldRes, Michel Jannet, the general manager for France and South-Europe, should be the only one to stay.

The Milia 2000 is certainly going to play the stars from 10th to 14th February. Cannes television commercial Festival is looking for a president
No luck for the international television commercial Festival which takes place every year in Cannes at the end of June. And even less for Ulf Dahlsten who was appointed president of the jury for this commercial Festival in Cannes. A few days ago, Ulf Dahlsten, president of Icon Medialab in Sweden was dismissed by its board of directors. Thus he can't preside over the jury of Cyber Lions of Cannes (the equivalent of the 'Palme d'or'). As a consequence, the Festival has to look for a new president of the jury quickly.
Project Management : the meeting of February 15th cancelled
The first meeting of the PMI France-Sud chapter, scheduled for February 15th at the Esinsa, has been cancelled in last minute. The reason : Jean-Charles Courbois, who was supposed to treat the theme 'How can you well manage a company acquisition' for subscribers, has had a ski accident and is now with a leg in plaster. They are thinking about a substitution date. The next PMI 'France-Sud' FORUM will actually take place at the Esinsa (1645 route des Lucioles, Sophia Antipolis) on March 15th 2001 on the PMO theme (Project management Office).
Cannes Film Festival : Jodie Foster won't be the president

Du mouvement en vue pour les écrans cannois. D'abord la disparition a été annoncée d'un cinéma et de ses quatre salles. Le Star, rue d'Antibes, n'a pas pu obtenir le renouvellement de son bail. Le local devrait changer d'affectation pour devenir un magasin de prêt à porter. Dans ce secteur de la rue d'Antibes, déjà, la fermeture du cinéma des Arcades avait entrainé la disparition de sept salles. L'emplacement a été repris depuis par la FNAC. En revanche, un projet de création de multiplexe (quinze salles, 3.500 fauteuils) a été déposé en mairie par le groupe UGC.

Is the Festival de Cannes going to be the Canal + show ? For ten years, the channel which likes cinema has been the partner of the most famous film festival in the world. The partnership will go on for three years and becomes wider. Canal + provided the production of opening and closure ceremonies. The channel was strongly represented especially with the 'Nulle part ailleurs' program and the Guignols live from the Martinez beach. Last year, Canal + also created an event by launching around sixty web-cameramen covering the manifestation.
