Tax on computers : Catherine Tasca abandons
The project of tax on computers, announced on Monday January 15th by Catherine Tacsa in an interview with the Figaro, didn't last long. In front of the strong opposition of the Treasury Department, backed-up by the Prime Minister, the Minister for the Arts preferred to renounce. So, on Tuesday January 16th, during the questions to the government at the National Assembly, she announced that there was no use to extend the tax of the private copy, that soon will be applied to blank CDs and DVDs, to computers as well as other types of digital memory unit. The Treasury Department as well as Prime Minister services were upset that such a tax would come at the wrong moment, while the government tried to encourage the use of the new communication technologies.
