Threats of storm over the European summit in Nice
The Nice summit that must confirm the French presidency of the European Union on December 7 to 9, may be confronted to some tempests. It is first an 'Alpes-Maritimes group for a European counter-summit' which appealed to a demonstration (a bit like in Seattle) against globalization. The group which gathers together about 20 bodies (politic parties and trade unions from Left) has announced they were expecting about 30,000 people in Nice on December 7 and 8. The group wants to melt 'citizens' forces' in order 'fundamental rights of each human being' to be taken in consideration to avoid a 'two speeds Europe'.The other cloud is coming from the extreme right wing. Austria President Jorg Haider has recently predicted the 'death' of the Nice summit if the sanctions against Austria were not raised before falls. Danger from right, danger from left for the Nice summit which however should become one of the most important steps in the European construction.
