Job creation: services support growth
Job creation is decreasing in France because of the slowdown in growth. It has even decreased in the industrial sector (- 0.1%). However, it remained constant with a slight increase in the second term 2001 (+ 0.4% compared to 0.8% on the previous term), thanks to the dynamism of the service sector (+0.6%). Indeed, in 2001, the achievement of the year 2000 will not be repeated, with 508,000 new jobs in the competitive sector. The predictions of Bercy (387,000 job creations) are less likely to be achieved than in France, with a difference from Germany, which should increase its slowdown. However, figures are not that disastrous. On the first two terms, 177,800 jobs were created and for 2001, progressions should be the same as in the years 1997 and 1998, which were the years of the recovery.
