A worrying rise of unemployment
The month of July was not very good for the employment: the ANPE (French job centre) has registered 39,600 additional job seekers, which corresponds to a 1.9% rise. However, the most worrying is that unemployment rose again for the third consecutive month, after four years of decrease. In June, statistics showed that there was 8,500 additional unemployed (0.5%), after an increase of 5,500 (0.3%) in May, reminded Le Monde in the article "Worrying rise of unemployment this summer". This time, it is getting worse and it is the worst result registered since June 1997. The economic slowdown is now considered in the statistic of unemployment.” The only encouraging point: on one year, the decrease remained at 9.3%, whereas the minister of employment and solidarity, Elisabeth Guigou, mentioned in a press release “the effect of July”.See also the analysis of this phenomenon in Libération, which explains why the rise of unemployment arrives "...at the worse time for the government".
