Nice-Corse : first sailing for the super NVG
The new super NVG 'Liamone' has made its first sailing on Thursday, the Ascension day. The SNCM's 'weapon' (Société National Corse Méditerranée) in the battle for the market of maritime lines Nice-Corse, has linked Nice to Calvi in two hours and thirty minutes (three hours with the first NGVs). This big NGV, more stable, robust and faster than first generation high speed ships, goes a 42 knot speed (more than 75 km/h). It transports 1.000 passengers and 250 vehicles. Above all, it can sail the most dangerous seas (up to 6-meter-high waves), which should settle cancellation problems experienced by former ships because of a bad weather..
