Marks & Spencer's withdrawal : Nice in shock
On Thursday morning March 29th, the 87 Marks & Spencer's employees in Nice, a department store (10.500 m2 over six floors) situated 44 rue Jean Médecin, have experienced the same disillusion as the 1.700 French employees of the company. They heard at the radio, the decision of the English group to close down all the eighteen French stores as soon as next December 31st. Such a measure of straight shutdown concerns all the Marks & Spencer's stores abroad as well, Ireland excluded. A worldwide total of 130 stores and 4.400 occupations are hit. The British banner has been in France for 26 years. It was particularly present since, over the 38 European stores, eighteen were French. Moreover French employees who have been hit account for half of continental Europe staffs and for 40% of worldwide staffs (Great-Britain and Ireland excluded) which have been thrown out by this withdrawal decision.
