Le Monde: Sophia in "really broadband"
Le Monde Interactif in an article entitled "Un banc d'essai pour l'Internet à "vraiment" très haut débit" has a look on the VTHD experimentation (Vraiment Très Haut Débit; really broadband) which is under way. "Distance study, collaborative work in virtual environments, network 3D games, telemedicine: some of the applications promised by the Vraiment Très Haut Débit (VTHD), the experimental version of the second generation Internet tested at the moment by France Télécom, the French national institute for research in computer science and control (Inria) and the group of telecommunication schools (GET)," it is written. The article focuses on the experimentation currently conducted with France Télécom's optical fiber infrastructure, with 40 gigabit/s connections between eight distant sites among which the one in Sophia Antipolis (as others are located in the Parisian region, in Grenoble, Lannion, Caen, Nacy, Rennes and Rouen).
