Inter-districts system: Menton is the leader
The Menton town council has adopted the idea of a towns community of regions at the East of the French Riviera, gathering together the districts around and until Tende.
The progression towards inter-districts system in the Alpes-Maritimes is long to happen. Nice goes very slowly and rely on the tramway to make the partner towns believe in a community. Cannes abandoned its relations with le Cannet and Mandelieu and put back the choice to after the town elections; Antibes which is trying to built a town community including Sophia Antipolis has also put back the 'works' to after the elections.Menton seems to go a bit faster. At the beginning of the week, the town council adopted by the majority the idea of a town community of about 15,000 inhabitants. The public body of inter-district cooperation with its own fiscal system, that would be thus constituted, would have 72,000 inhabitants. It would gather together towns according to the Menton plan: Beausoleil, Capd'Ail, Castellar, Castillon, Eze, Gorbio, La Turbie, Menton, Peille, Saint-Agnès, Sospel …Discussions have also been made with districts round the Roya and Bévéra, like Tende, la Brigue, Fontan, Saorge, Breil-sur-Roya…The agreement of the town councils of all these districts has to be got. The name chosen for the community would be CAPECA (Communauté d'Agglomérations des Pays de l'Est de la Côte d'Azur).
