Food : Supermarkets can open on Sundays

In the debate concerning the opening on Sundays for the whole sector of food, the supermarket distribution has just won over local shops in the department.The administrative court in Nice has just passed its sentence after an hearing last April 28th and indeed, has cancelled the order taken by the prefecture on March 1999.This order prohibited food sales areas over 300 square meters to open on Sunday.However, this prohibition didn’t prevent several supermarkets in Nice, Antibes Juan-les-Pins or Cannes La Bocca from keeping on to open on Sunday mornings, not intending to respect the decision despite the procedures against them. Nevertheless, the case could not be over. Indeed, the prefecture would plan to make another order which would take into account the comments made by the administrative court. Before the case is settled, supermarkets can now open on Sundays quite legally.
