The ETSI will not register site names
The ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) will not launch in the management of site names. A pilot operation had been launched at the beginning of the year to create a site names registration platform in Sophia Antipolis premises. The team had been constituted, the information system ready to function and the goal was not without showing ambition: allow the registration of about 100,000 site names a month and above all manage the '.eu', the future European dot, which should be launched at the end of the year or at the beginning of next year. But the project was not approved unanimously at the board of telecommunications' operators. The pilot operation was thus stopped during the summer, while the registrations of site names will continued to be done by an information platform settled in Dusseldorf, Germany.
